Water Well Permit Transfer
In my annual update class, I learned of a newer little-known law regarding water well permit transfers.
The law requires reporting to the CO Division of Water Resources when change of ownership of any small capacity well or exempt domestic well are used for ordinary household purposes. This does not apply to large community wells.
If you bought a property with its own well, you need to check with the Division to ensure that the permit was transferred into your name. If you’re planning to sell your home that has a well on it, be sure that it is permitted. Issuance of a permit on a non-permitted well is NOT guaranteed and could take 6+ months.
